Your cycling tour in Holland:
This cycling tour takes you to the pearls of Holland: unique towns that have retained their character of yesteryear. But cycling in Holland isn’t just about admiring the typical towns. In this region you’ll find an oasis of serenity, vast calm landscapes, polders with their characteristic mills, splendid rivers and fields of flowers. This itinerary promises to give you a taste of Holland’s must-sees, between magnificent cities and superb natural landscapes.
Day 1 : Arrival at Utrecht
Picturesque parks and canals, historic buildings and many interesting museums await you in Utrecht. Numerous restaurants and bars invite you to linger in the lively city center.
Day 2 : Utrecht - Amsterdam | 55 km
You’ll start your bike tour by following the course of the Vecht. The region around this idyllic river offers a wealth of history and culture in addition to its wonderful landscape. The rich gastronomic offering is an added bonus. Today’s destination is the Dutch capital Amsterdam. Why not round off the day with a canal cruise?
Day 3 : Amsterdam - Noordwijk aan Zee | 65 km
Take another stroll through the narrow streets of the Dutch metropolis before continuing your bike tour. You’ll soon reach Haarlem, ideal for a lunch break. In this idyllic town, you’ll find some of Holland’s characteristic windmills, canals and drawbridges. Then pedal along the coast to Zandvoort. The vast sandy beaches will entice you in for a swim. In spring, a short detour to Keukenhof Park is a must, where you can admire over 7 million tulips, hyacinths and daffodils. Today’s destination is Noordwijk aan Zee.
Day 4 : Noordwijk aan Zee - Rotterdam | 65 km
Wonderful beach promenades will entice you back for another swim in the cool water. You’ll soon reach The Hague. This city is characterized by wide sandy beaches, lush green parks and beautiful dunes. Art and culture lovers will also get their money’s worth with a wide range of museums. You’ll then head inland, away from the coast. On the way, you’ll soon reach Delft. This university town is known far beyond its borders for its Delft porcelain. At the Vermeer Centre, you can admire works by the painter Johannes Vermeer. The many cafés and restaurants will entice you to linger. The cycling stage ends in the trendy port metropolis of Rotterdam, a shopper’s paradise.
Day 5 : Rotterdam - Gouda/Bodegraven | 55 km
After breakfast, there’s still time for a stroll around Rotterdam. You’ll be seduced by the modern architecture. Once on your bike, you’ll soon reach the windmills of Kinderdijk. These 19 impressive buildings are among the most popular postcard motifs in the Netherlands. The famous windmills were built as early as 1740 and were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Today, you’ll spend the night in Gouda, the city of cheese, a welcoming Dutch town with an authentic town center. Gouda is famous for its fairytale town hall, stained-glass church windows and picturesque canals.
Day 6 : Gouda/Bodegraven - Utrecht | 55 km
Medieval Gouda is not only famous for its cheese, but also for its waffles with syrup. You can enjoy them for breakfast. The last stage takes you to the ‘Green Heart of Holland’ (Groene Hart), characterized by ancient Dutch towns and villages, vast meadows and polders, typical Dutch dikes, fields and numerous waterways. Finish today’s tour with a refreshing beer in the historic center of Utrecht.
